Togetherness Works!

By Hazel Holland

Mimi and Sasha are snuggling close to one another on the sofa this evening... something that they rarely ever did in California.  Perhaps that's because they're also adjusting to living in a colder house in the winter time.  Apparently their territorial issues have been laid aside for the moment.  The warmth that they both gain from coming together far outweighs the urge to be alone on their separate blankets.

You think that perhaps we human beings could learn some valuable spiritual lessons from our pets?

My Feathered Friends

By Hazel Holland

Here are some shots of the way it looked outside the next morning after the first snowfall of winter.  Some rather large birds discovered the bread crumbs in my bird feeder.  Tomorrow we'll see if they like sunflower seeds, too.

First Snow of Winter

By Hazel Holland

"Did you look outside yet, Mom?" my son called to ask this evening.  Here's what I saw when I opened the door... the first snow of winter!  Better go and park my car inside the garage so I don't have to clean it off in the morning... :)

I'm glad I brought this wrought iron bird feeder from California because I get to see the birds feeding from my kitchen window.  I've noticed that besides sparrows there are some rather large black birds with white on their wings...  Gotta find out what they're called.

Mimi and Sasha

By Hazel Holland

Here's are pictures of Mimi and Sasha who will accompany me on my move to Idaho.  Not sure how they will do traveling for two days in my car.  Hopefully I won't have to keep them in their cat carriers the whole time, but they'll be free to sit where they want in the car, and use the litter box that will be on the floor in the back.

I have medicine from the vet to give them on the trip to make them more relaxed, and hopefully a little dopey so they'll sleep a lot.  If anyone reading this blog has any helpful suggestions that might help make my cats more comfortable on this trip, and me less stressed about them, please feel free to make those suggestions to me.  I'd really appreciate all the help I can get!

I Know He Cares

By Hazel Holland

Tonight I got the idea from my friend, Ramone, to do a chalk pastel of placing Ebbie in God's hands...

I knew for the past five days that today was not going to be easy.  God had told me to take my last kitty in to the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center this morning.  Saying good-bye to Ebbie was heart-breaking because she had finally learned to trust me, and now I was in a sense breaking that trust, because I had to find a new home for her... just like I had done for my other three cats.

Finding new homes for four of my beloved pets over the past six months has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.  I just didn't know that when I rescued all six cats a number of years ago I was going to have to give four of them up for adoption because of a move I am planning to make to another state...

When I showed up at the adoption center with Ebbie this morning, the guy at the front desk smiled as he recognized me from a few months ago.  And then quite abruptly he said, "Who told you to bring your cat in today?"

I was taken aback for a moment by his question, but silently thought, "God did!"

"We aren't taking in any more animals at the present time because we are full!" he apologized.  He was genuinely sorry.

"Several months ago now", I offered, "I brought Ebbie in and they told me to get some medical tests done to be sure she was healthy, and then they would accept her.  I have all the paperwork with me," I smiled.

Jack went off to check with his boss and came back a few minutes later with a cheerful grin on his face.  "We always keep our promises! he assured me.  "Bring Ebbie over here and we'll get started on the paperwork".

"Thanks God!" I whispered out loud.  "Thank you for Your timing and for keeping Your promise to provide a loving home for each of my beloved pets.  Thank you for caring enough to match each animal up with the right family.  You did it for the others God, and I know You will do it for my sweet Ebbie, too!

(I did this chalk pastel tonight as a way to deal with my sadness as I let go of the last of my beloved pets!  I'm planning on taking this picture of Ebbie and this little write up to the adoption center tomorrow!)
